Aoud Velvet Montale

Aoud Velvet by Montale - most horrible of Montale ouds. It has strong loud and quite uncommon opening: it smells like a burst of a bomb in an apothecary. Old apothecary, I mean – with all its cough mixtures, infusions and balms. It is near unpleasant and entirely countercultural as well. I can hear saffron, oud and some 'molecules’.

Then in the heart it shows dark deep red roses, rose oil, very romantic and well-mixed with sharp apothecary oud-like notes. Aoud Velvet likes hot weather and shows all its rose fields.

Base is totally frustrative. Cheap and quite standard, it does not fit neither opening, neither heart: creamy and synthetic tiare-vanilla with touch of frankincense, amber and sandalwood (not the Amouage Gold, alas!).

Aoud Velvet от Montale – самый ужасный из удов Montale. Мощное, убийственно громкое и совершенно нетривиальное начало - как бомба, взорванная в старой аптеке, в ее рецептурном отделе, среди мазей, микстур и настоек. Почти отвратительное и совершенно анархическое начало. Шафран, агар и всякая химия.

Следом за этим из ужаса проступают роскошные темно-красные розы, романтично выступающие из-за аптечного удообразного ужаса. Aoud Velvet любит жару и завлекает в жару на свои розовые поля.

База – полное унылое разочарование, дешевка, не соответствующая ни началу, ни развитию. Сливочно-ванильный тиарэ со следами ладана, амбры и сандала (хоть похоже на Amouage Gold, только все же не...).

Different ouds, part I / Уды разные, часть 1

Do you know that ‘oud’ means Arabian lute?  

Aoud Forest by Montale contains no oud at all, except first 5 min since opening. These moments we can recognize some smoky and resinous notes. After this blink Aoud Forest is typical synthetic-flower-‘shampoo’ fragrance with white musk and other typical notes. It slightly remains Cheap&Chic by Moschino, but is more, um, unassembled.

Golden Aoud by Montale is nice and simple oud-like composition with dry, slightly medicinal facets of dry herbs, oud-smoke and geranium, saffron and wood. It has soft sandy sillage and is close to Secret Oud by Caron. They both are ‘wild’ and natural enough.

Oud Wood by Tom Ford is another type of oud - more spicy, ambery and more ‘fashionable’. Oud plays at the opening and then works as backing vocalist for amber, vetiver, tonka been and other notes of traditional (especially for Tom Ford) scent, gives to whole fragrance ‘oriental’ vibrations.

Aoud Forest Montale собственно к уду не имеет никакого отношения, не считая тех чудных мгновений в самом начале, когда слышно нечто дымное и смолистое. После этого Aoud Forest методично развивается в синтетично-цветочно-шампуневый бело-мускусный ну очень современный аромат. Слегка напоминает сильно разбалансированный Cheap&Chic Moschino.

Golden Aoud того же  Montale - а вот это совсем другое дело. Простая и четкая «удоподобная» композиция с ароматическими, слегка аптечными оттенками сена, удового дыма, шафрана, герани, древесины... У Golden Aoud сухой песочный шлейф и он напоминает Secret Oud Caron. Оба из разряда природно-диких.

Oud Wood (Tom Ford ) – представитель удов совершенно другого типа, прирученных. Гораздо более пряный, амбровый, респектабельный и светский. Уд показывается в начале, исполняет соло, а затем служит на подпевках у совершенно традиционных (особенно для Форда) нот амбры, ветивера, тонка и прочей базы. Придает Oud Wood легкий намек на восток.

Secret Oud Caron

Edp tried in TSUM in a lavish spraying on hand. My total impressions are strange. In the first opinion - is the most non-caron-ish Caron of all. And I do not think generally that there is noticeable oud - however, the opinions are diverged a lot. And - this is very good, well done fragrance.

For me, the beginning was harsh, fresh, especially spicy, grassy, with desert-sand, desiccating note of saffron. Here it is the most non-caron-ish of possible openings, comparable only with that bastard of a noble family as Lady Caron. The grass I could not determine, it is green, astringent and resinous. I managed not to confuse it with vetiver, although I had such temptation - and the first half an hour Secret Oud seemed built on a combination of oud and vetiver.

All together, it seemed to me rather skillfully imitating oud than representing him.

Then it must have been, theoretically, roses and jasmine - but soon became exude pure rough geranium. Leaves of geraniums, chafed in fingers, on the background of astringent herbal resins. Perhaps an echo of tobacco leaf.

In the middle between and heart and soul suddenly revealed soft hawthorn suede of Daim Blond. It was like bridge cropped up suddenly on the way.

Next is hot woody dust. Hot sandal chips from near the file. Notes of the leather. Delicate moss. Chypre base with an abundance of sandalwood sawdust. Musk. Salted notes.

Secret Oud creates many mirages, like a real desert, images are transferred to a long distance, they are convincing, but then melting a few minutes.

I’d rather be quite satisfied, be Secret Oud free of of the real oud: the actualized scent, re-creation of its image is much more of art than the direct use of material with its characteristic well defined odor. In general, Secret Oud - as well as other Carons – is The Art.

Now it smells like an aromatic dried in the open haycock...

Edp из ЦУМа в щедром набрызге на руку. Впечатление странное. В первом мнении - это самый некароновский Карон из всех. И мне не кажется, что там вообще заметна именно аквилария - впрочем, мнения опробовавших сильно расходятся. И еще – это очень хороший, хорошо сделанный аромат.

Для меня начало оказалось терпким, свежим, в первую очередь пряно-травяным, с пустынно-песочной, иссушающей нотой шафрана. Вот это и есть самая некароновская из возможных стадий, сравнимая разве что с таким бастардом благородного семейства как Lady Caron. Траву мне определить не удалось, она зеленая, терпкая и смолистая. Мне удалось не спутать ее с ветивером, хотя соблазн был – и первые полчаса Secret Oud казался построенным на сочетании аквиларии и ветивера.

Все вместе мне показалось скорее умело имитирующим уд, чем представляющим его.

Затем должны были быть, теоретически, розы и жасмин – однако, скорее стала проступать чистая шероховатая герань. Листья душистой герани, растираемые в пальцах, на фоне терпких травяных смол. Может быть, отголосок табачного листа.

На переходе к базе вдруг мостиком проявилась мягкая боярышниковая замша из Daim Blond.

Далее – горячая деревянная пыль. Сандал из-под напильника. Ноты кожи. Легкая мшистость. Шипровая база с обилием сандаловых опилок. Мускус. Солоноватые ноты.

В Secret Oud очень много миражей - настоящих пустынных, образов, перенесенных на расстояние, убедительных, но тающих через несколько минут.

Меня вполне устроило бы, не окажись в Secret Oud собственно аквиларии: в воссоздании аромата, в создании его образа - много больше искусства, нежели в непосредственном употреблении материала с характерным запахом. В целом Secret Oud – как и прочие кароны – это именно Искусство.

А сейчас он пахнет душистым просушенным сеном...
